Click on Picture for more views.	ANTIQUE MASONIC JEWEL / FREEMASON PIN IN BOX (item #4906): Nice early paper case in excellent working order. Enclosed in this wonderful little case is a pin, known as a jewel. This is how it has been described to me. The Jewel is that for the Order Of the Secret Monitor- One of many separate degrees within Freemasonry- a rite which was brought to England from the USA by a Dr I Zacharie around 1875. The purple/orange/purple configuration of the ribbon indicates that the holder of the jewel was a first degree member (ie junior rather than senior), although we are unsure of the monogram on the ribbon. The custom in the US was to put the holder's initials on the ribbon ( as a monogram) alternatively, the jewel may have been ordered from a british manufacture by the conclave (OSM equivalent of a Lodge) and modified upon receipt. This is a Masonic Jewel, it is a founder's & 2nd degree jewel of the "Order Of the Secret Monitor" a British Masonic Order Active in the British Isles, while this same degree or order is under the authority of Allied Masonic Degrees in the States. The letters"D" & "J" stand for David and Jonathan which signifigance is obvious in the Holy Writ. We have been informed that this is a rare and unusual item in the United States. Bezel set, the 3/4 inch long by 3/8 inch porcelain section is designed in a lovely dutch motif. Windmills of blue on a white background, this is simply a beautiful vintage piece. It is marked on the back side of the delft piece. The silver colored filigee mounting has no marks. A nice loop locking clasp secures this lovely old bracelet..... $85.00
